Description

2010 Event date will be announced by December 1, 2009

The specific date and time for online registration for the 2010 event will also be announced on December 1, 2009.

Swim:

The swim is held at the NOMAD Aquatic & Fitness Center in northern Mecklenburg county. This three-year-old state-of-the-art facility is a one-of-a-kind facility designed to help you fly through the water. During the 250 yard swim, participants snake their way across the pool, going up one lane and coming back in the next. Lane changes are made at the end of each lane, the advantage here being that participants are only swimming one direction in each lane. This makes passing people very easy. It is still important to submit an accurate 100 yard swim time as required in the registration. By submitting an accurate swim time you're seeding yourself correctly, which puts you in the water on race day surrounded by other participants who are comparable swimmers to you. Swim times may be updated on your registration up until Friday, September 18th.

Bike:

The 10 mile bike course for the Take Flight Triathlon is a one-loop design through the rolling hills of Highland Creek and the surrounding area. The course is best described as moderately hilly (there are two decent hills), but the resulting times will be fast for proficient peddlers. The roads are mostly two-lane and will be open to vehicular traffic, but should be relatively light on race morning as they are primarily in neighborhood areas.

Run:
Similar to last year's course, the run is an out and back format but with no double loops like last year! It starts from the transition area beside NOMAD and winds through the rolling hills of Skybrook before finishing in the aquatic center's parking lot. The course is mostly flat and the hills are pretty tame by most triathlon standards.
By the time you're finished, you'll be ready to enjoy all the post-race festivities (refreshments, awards, family activities) which will take place in and around NOMAD's facility.
