New event for the 2010 season. Due to the overwhelming demand for the March triathlon at the Huntersville Aquatic Center (Cool Breeze Triathlon formally known as the MAP Triathlon), we have added another event at the Hunterville Aquatic Center in April. This event will be very similiar to the March event, except the swim course will be 500 yards instead of 250 yards.
This event is perfect for beginners who participanted in the March event. The swim course is 250 meters longer than the March event and is a great tune up before the White Lake Sprints in May.
Course Description:
Swim:
The event begins in typical fashion with the swim, a 500 yard pool swim in the beautiful Huntersville Aquatic Center, one of the finest swimming facilities on the east coast and the venue for many high-level national swim meets. The aquatic center is set up to take advantage of the 50-meter pool using 20 lanes, each being 25 yards in length (for those swimmers in the crowd, the pool is set up "short course"). Participants snake their way across the pool, going up one lane and coming back in the next. Lane changes are made at the end of each lane, the advantage here being that participants are only swimming one direction in each lane. This makes passing people very easy. It is still important to submit an accurate 100 yard swim time when registering, this is required for registration. By submitting an accurate swim time you're seeding yourself correctly, which puts you in the water on race day surrounded by other participants who are comparable swimmers to you.
Bike:
The 20K bike course for the Huntersville Triathlon is a one-loop design. The course is best described as moderately hilly. The roads are mostly two-lane and will be open to vehicular traffic, but should be relatively light on race morning. The western half of this course will be familiar to participants who race in the Tri Latta Triathlon.
Run:
The 5K run course has been updated. It is comprised of an out and back on roads!! Click here to view the new route.
