Description

2011 Event date will be announced by December 1, 2010.

The specific date and time for online registration for the 2011 event will also be announced on December 1, 2010.

The White Lake Half and Sprint Triathlons will be held on two weekends in 2010. The event dates will be as follows:

White Lake Half - May 1 (Sat)
White Lake Sprint - May 2 (Sun)
White Lake Half - May 8 (Sat)
White Lake Sprint - May 9 (Sun)

We're doing this as a way of being able to increase the number of people who can participate in the events, The NC State Park folks will not allow us to have more than 900 people on any one day, so by expanding to two weekends we can enable more people to race. The race caps will actually be reduced in 2010 to 700 per race/per day.

There will be no differences in the races. When one race fills up on any particular day, people will have the option of registering for the other day. For example, if the White Lake Half fills up on May 1st, people will be able to register for the White Lake Half on May 8th. Awards will be given out for all four races. All the race categories available in Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series events will be offered for all four races. For instance, if you are a novice, you can register for any of the four race dates. Same applies to all the other race categories.

The exception to this rule will be relay teams. Relay teams will only be allowed to race on the May 8th and 9th race dates. There will be no relay team competition on the May 1st and 2nd dates.

Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series Ranking Points:

Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series points will be given out for all four races. There will be no difference between the race dates. As far as Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series ranking points are concerned, we are simply now offering two additional races in which a person can obtain points. The point value for the White Lake Half on May 2nd will be same as the points value for the White Lake Half on May 9th. Same applies to the White Lake Sprint on both dates.

Course Descriptions:

Swim:
The basic reason that both White Lake races (the Half and the Sprint) have become so popular over the years is the lake itself. White Lake is one of the finest lakes you will ever have the pleasure to swim in – a perfect oval, two miles long and one mile across. The lake which is fed by subterranean springs is crystal clear with a sand bottom – about nine feet deep out in the very middle. Most mornings, White Lake is so perfectly flat; you’d swear you were looking at a sheet of ice. This is an in-water start with participants lining up with the end of the two piers/docks at the NCFFA Center. The swim course is a triangular shaped course. Participants exit the water at the end of the easternmost pier/dock and run about 300 yards to the transition area. The water temperature at White Lake is usually very close to the USAT threshold temperature of 78 degrees. Check out the USA Triathlon wetsuit rules if you’re not familiar with them – the rules can be found on the following link.

Bike:
The bike course is a two-lap course - each lap being 7 miles in length. The course circles White Lake and is very fast. There are only 2 right hand turns on this course, the pavement is smooth, and there are no hills whatsoever.

Run:
The 5K run is an out & back course. Other than the first 1/4 mile and the final 1/4 mile - the remainder of the run takes place in the Waterford Estates development along the lakefront. There is a decent amount of shade on this course - which is flat.
