Race Logistics:
This race involves some special logistics due to the point-to-point nature of the race. The swim takes place at Moss Lake - west of Kings Mountain. The bike course starts at Moss Lake and finishes in downtown Kings Mountain. The run course takes place in downtown Kings Mountain. Please familiarize yourself with these details in the "Race Logistics" section of this page.

Swim:
The race starts at Moss Lake - located about 10 miles west of downtown Kings Mountain. Participants enter the water at the Moss Lake Park Dept. office and boat launch area and swim 1,500 meters across the lake - exiting at the New Camp Creek Rd. park area - the location of transition area #1. Moss Lake is a beautiful clean lake - one of the most popular swim venues in the Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series. The water temperature is expected to be very close to the USAT threshold temperature of 78 degrees.
Bike:
The bike course is easily the featured element of this race. The 45K course starts at the 1st transition area at Moss Lake and finishes at Patriots Park in downtown Kings Mountain. The bike course is both challenging and beautiful. The course takes participants through two state parks, one national park, and in and out of South Carolina along the way. There are a few long gradual climbs, but nothing too steep. Hardly any portion of this course is level - lots of rollers and moderate ascents and descents. There will be one water bottle handoff location at mile 15 (water only).
Run:
The run is a two lap, out & back course. While not flat, the run can't really be defined as hilly either. There are a couple of long gradual hills but also a significant portion of road that would almost be considered flat. Aid stations will be located every 3/4 mile (water & energy drink).

What do I do if I Qualified?
Once qualification is met, athletes do not need to do anything special except indicate where and how they met qualification on the Age Group National Championship online race registration system. There will be no other steps required. You will not receive a notification from USAT on your qualification as each athlete is responsible for letting us know in which race they qualified when they register online (see: Race Registration to register).
USA Triathlon will do an audit of those who have met qualification shortly after the athlete registers online. If an athlete does not get a written request for more information within two weeks of registering online, the athlete can rest assured that the entry has been accepted. From there, the athlete's name will appear on the participant list.
