Description
2011 Event date will be announced by December 1, 2010.
The specific date and time for online registration for the 2011 event will also be announced on December 1, 2010.
The Tri Latta Triathlon is a two day event.
The race category you choose will determine which day you race.
Saturday:
Open, Masters Open, Age Groupers, Clydesdales, Masters Clydesdales, and Athenas.
Sunday:
Novices, Masters Novices, and all Relay Teams
If you have already raced in 2010 in an Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series event as an age grouper, or in the Open, Masters Open, Clydesdale, Masters Clydesdale, or Athena categories, you can race in the Lake Norman (Sun) race, HOWEVER you must register in the Novice or Masters Novice categories.
This means that this race would not count towards your point totals for Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series series awards.
Course Descriptions:
(for course maps - click on "Course Maps" button above)
Swim:
The swim takes place in Mountain Island Lake and is basically an out & back designed course. Outbound and inbound swimmers are separated by about 50 yards, to eliminate potential head-on collisions. The water temperature at Latta is expected to be 80 degrees or higher making wetsuits usage illegal per USAT rules.
Bike:
The bike course is a 17 mile loop – a course that is best described as moderately hilly. There are no big climbs on the course – but a series of rollers and a couple of fairly long hills though not steep. The bike takes place on two-lane roads that are open to vehicular traffic so participants are encouraged to be alert and careful.
Run:
The new course (debuted in 2009) is a straight out & back design - eliminating the two loops that were required on the old course. It's a mostly off-road run course on the trail system at Latta Park. The run surface is hard-packed dirt/gravel. The course is heavily shaded and features a couple of hills – neither of which is long or steep. Aid stations will be located every mile.
