Description
The Enka Triathlon at Biltmore Lake in Asheville has reestablished itself as one of the premier events in the region in only two years. The race is a classic mountain triathlon and is the first lake-swim race of the season in the mountains. The 750 meter swim in Enka Lake should be wet-suit legal ('09 temperature was 76 degrees) and is extremely clean as motorized boats are not allowed on the lake. The 17.5 mile bike leg is fun and challenging, providing athletes with a steady mixture of climbing, descents and flat terrain. There are gradual climbs at the 3 and 11 mile marks that will separate the field. The run is virtually flat on a dirt/gravel trail except for a section on road at mile 1 that goes up into the development across the lake. After completing the neighborhood loop, runners will return to the trail for the remainder of the circuit around the scenic lake to the finish line.
Race capacity is capped at 350 participants to maintain the integrity of the venue and we expect this race to fill quickly.
Affiliated Charities
This event benefits Enka-Candler Fire Department and Upper Hominy Fire Department .
The Biltmore Lake Association with Glory Hound Events has again designated the Enka-Candler Fire Department and Upper Hominy Fire Department as the recipient of race proceeds. $3 from every entry will go to the department's annual fundraising drive to support their efforts in the Enka-Candler community. The departments do an excellent job of stationing course marshals on the bike course as well as staging emergency medical personnel around the entire race venue.
