Description

Badin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is described as a “French-Flavored town at the foot of the Uwharries”. The area includes nearby Morrow Mountain State Park and the Uwharrie National Forest and is known as the Central Park of North Carolina. The historic nature of the town and the beautiful surrounding area make it a great venue for a triathlon.

The swim will take place in adjacent Badin Lake. By this time of year the swim is expected to not be wetsuit legal, It is an easy point to point swim with the Uwharrie Mountainsproviding a scenic backdrop from across the lake. The run to the transition area is now going to be right beside the lake thus eliminating the long run to the field.

The bike route begins on a flat town road then proceeds slightly downhill for the first mile. The first right turn begins a fairly challenging hill that quickly yields to rolling hills through scenic country roads. The last couple of miles are downhill making it possible to rest the legs for the run through town.

The run through the town is completely flat except for a couple of very short sections that are actually downhill near the finish. The run will pass French style residential houses and the Badin Inn that are unique to the area. The finish will be in the same park like field near the swim exit.

Come to Badin and stay and play. Badin has a Drive in Theater. Go back in time and enjoy a first run movie from the comfort of your own car. The Badin golf course is also a great way to unwind in the afternoon.

USAT's "Age Up" Policy:

An athlete's age for any USAT sanctioned race will be his/her age as of Dec. 31, 2010 . The age he/she is on 12/31 will determine his/her racing age group. If an athlete is due to "age-up" into the next group, it will happen at the beginning of the year, not after the athlete's birthday. This action aligns regular U.S. age group racing with the method used by USA Triathlon for its National Rankings Program and its new Grand Prix Series.

Example: John Smith is 39 and will turn 40 on November 20, 2010.

John will be considered 40 for all 2010 races - and will race in the 40-44 age group at all 2010 races.

Sally Jones is 29 and will turn 30 on July 3, 2010.
Sally will be considered 30 for all 2010 races - and will race in the 30-34 age group at all 2010 races.

This same policy applies to the all race categories in the TrySports Development Triathlon Series races.
