Description
The 2011 event will be held on Saturday April 30, 2011. On-line Registration will begin the first week of January 2011.

Flat and Fast is the name of the game at the first ever TryCharleston Half and Sprint Triathlon. The two-loop swim is held at the KOA campground lake in Mt. Pleasant, SC and will most likely be wetsuit legal. The one-loop bike will take participants on a 56 mile journey around the area on flat, mostly smooth roads with lots of brand new pavement. The 13.1 mile run will feature multiple out and back segments allowing athletes to view their competition several times.

Affiliated Charities
This event benefits Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy and Team Type 1.
The primary mission of the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy is to provide pastoral care and counseling for employees and families of law enforcement and emergency service agencies, as well as the general public; assist the Coroner in notifying individuals who have lost a family member in an unexpected manner; assist the Mobile Crisis Unit and SWAT teams in hostage negotiations and other local emergency situations; and to provide follow-up visitations in the home or in the hospital for victims of crimes and their families.
All 2010 SCTS events will benefit Team Type 1
The main objectives of Team Type 1 are as follows:
- Strive for 6.5 program - The outreach program where athletes visit hospitals, families and caregivers to educate them on living with and overcoming Diabetes.
- Helping fund and resource the 70,000 people living without the insulin they need. The Team will be going to Rwanda, South Africa to pass out supplies and teach the people how to use the insulin and technology to live healthier.
- "Cure Death from Diabetes" a program to eliminate death from the complications of Diabetes in the next 5 years. This will involve more educational cirriculum, pushing for approval of new technology and having the athletes test new medical equipment to expidite the arrival of the "synthetic pancreas" and closed loop insulin delivery system.

4/28/2010 TryCharleston Water Temperature = 77F
As of 5PM on Wednesday the water temperature at the KOA campground is 77F. With cooler nights ahead we expect this event to be wetsuit legal with water temps near 74 degrees on event morning.

NOTE: We will be taking registrations on site Friday and Saturday during posted packet pick up times.
There will be an optional pre-event meeting at the event site near the transition area at 6PM On Friday April 30, 2010. At this meeting we will go over the event in detail and answer any questions you may have. This meeting is your best opportunity to learn about the event.

This event is limited to the first 600 registrations.
USAT Sanctioned
The TryCharleston Half is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event.
Cut off Times
All participants must complete the event within 8 hours of the start of the final swim wave. Individual discipline cut off times are seen below and are listed as cummulative times from the start of the final swim wave. Event officials reserve the right to pull any athlete from the course if it appears he/ she will not complete the event within the posted cut off times.
Swim: 1 hour 15 minutes
Bike: 5 hours 00 minutes
Run: 8 Hours 00 minutes
Medical Form
The medical form is mandatory and must be filled out and turned in in order to get your event packet. Please download the form and bring it with you to packet pick up.
Minimum Age
The minimum age allowed for participating in the TryCharleston Half as an individual is 15 years of age.

The TryCharleston Half will be timed using the ChampionChip Tming System.

Policies and Refunds
REFUND POLICY
50% of your entry fee will be refunded until April 1, 2010. No refunds will be issued for any reason after April 1, 2010. Event entries are not transferable between persons, events or years. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. By registering for this event you agree to these refund terms. To request a refund you must complete the refund request form using the link below BEFORE the posted refund deadline.
WEATHER POLICY
In the event of inclement the following procedures will be followed:
- The event will be postponed until 7:30AM in hopes the inclement weather will pass.
- If inclement weather does not pass at 7:30AM the event will be changed to a duathlon with a 10 km Run, 56 mile Bike, 10 km Run format.
- If a duathlon is not possible the event will be cancelled and a 50% credit will be issued for all registered participants into the 2011 event. No refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather.
- If the event is cancelled due to inclement weather prior to event weekend a 50% credit will be issued for all registered participants into the 2011 event. No refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled due to inclement weather.

Aid Stations
BIKE COURSE
Aid stations on the bike will be positioned at 3 locations on the bike course. These stations will be found at approximately miles 15, 30 and 45. Stations at mile marks 15 and 45 will have water only in sportscap water bottles which fit nicely into a standard water bottle cage. The station at mile mark 30 will have water and HEED in a standard bike bottle which will fit into a standard water bottle cage.
RUN COURSE
Aid stations on the run will be positioned approximately every mile. These stations will contain:
- Water and Hammer Heed
- Hamer Gel and Electrolyte capsules
- Pretzels and other salty snacks
- Orange Slices
- Flat Cola
- Iced Rags
AquaBike Division
The 2010 edition of the TryCharlesto Half will offer an Aquabike Division for those wishing to race but not interested in battling the half marathon of the event. Athletes must register as an Aquabike participant (Event Category) during registration AND MUST USE the discount code aquabike10 to pay the reduced rate ($50 off the normal fee). Aquabike athletes will end their day at the bike finish timing mats entrance to the Transition Area. Awards will be given to the Top 3 overall men and women in this category. Aquabike athletes will not be awarded finisher's medals at this event.
