VIEW ANOTHER EVENT
The Smith Mountain Lake Triathlon is the first open water swim triathlon in the western part of the state. This race has been around for a long time and is one of the most popular in the VTS. The water for the swim has historically been in the upper 60's so wetsuits are recommended but are not mandatory. The swim starts and finishes at the State Parks well groomed swimming beach. The bike is 20K and rolling throughout. The run course is all inside the park and is a nice flat to rolling out and back affair. Definitely a nice event to add to your early season schedule.
This event benefits Virginia Amateur Sports and The ALS Foundation.
This event benefits Virginia Amateur Sports, a Roanoke based non-profit group working to promote access to sporting events of all kinds to Virginia residents. Please consider making a donation to this worthy cause during the registration process.
Longtime Roanoke resident and triathlete Dick Kelley passed away in 2009 after a battle with ALS. If you would like to make a donation to the cause you can do so when you register or by clicking HERE.
Swim Course Update: The water is currently 56F at Smith Mtn Lake State Park. At the request of local officials and to err on the side of athlete safety, the swim course has been shortened to 400 meters. We know some of our athletes may be dissappointed while others will be thrilled. Realize that our foremost responsibility to is to ensure the safety of all our athletes.
