Description
NOTE: This is the Giant Acorn International Distance event page.
A 10AM start, a crystal clear heated lake, super fast bike and run courses and Brunswick Stew. What more can you ask for? Located just 45 minutes SW of Fredericksburg and 45 minutes NW of Richmond at Lake Anna Beach Marina this is the last weekend of racing in the 2009 Virginia Triathlon Series. The Giant Acorn triathlon has sold out every year for the last 3 years.
Swim Course: The 1500 meter swim begins with an in water start with the course going around the transition area and the finish line. Your friends and loved ones can walk around the race site and never be more than 250 yards from you as you make the 3 right hand turns that make up the course. This section of Lake Anna is unique in that the water coming into this section is used to cool the power plant and is a good 6-10 degrees warmer than the rest of the lake. The water temperature has averaged in the mid 70's which is pretty nice for October!
Bike Course: The bike course is 2 loops of the sprint course for 40K. With a right turn out of the park the bike is all on fresh pavement and is mostly flat with some rolling sections. The best section is mile 1.5-2.0 where you will race across the causeway with water on either side of you.
Run Course: The run is the same as the sprint course, just longer. It's a simple, fast out and back course along the rural roads of Louisa County. Be sure to mark this one on your calendar as a must do event for 2009.

News
Giant Acorn Race Site: As some of you may have noticed by going by this event site to train that the Lake Anna Beach Marina is in foreclosure. We have a written agreement with the current owner that this will not proceed until later in the fall and we are good to go to use the race site. There will be a lot of mowing but the Giant Acorn will be the same great race it always has been.
