Description
New Run Course: Click HERE for the new run course map.
The Patriot's Half: Located on the James River next to the Jamestown settlement, centerpiece for the 400th celebration of Jamestown. Just minutes from I-64 in Williamsburg, VA the Patriot's Half is a must do event. After a 1.2 mile swim in the James River athletes will race through 56 miles of woods, farmlands, and lakes on mostly flat terrain and good pavement. Once you have laced up your running shoes you'll be treated to a flat and fast 13.1 mile run along the James River.
Be sure to take get in a day early to get your race packet to check out the race site, attend the pre-race meeting or open water swim clinic and experience Colonial Williamsburg.
Course Details:
Swim: The swim course is a 1.2 mile rectangular course in the brackish James River. The start is at the beach adjacent to the ferry and it finishes just downriver from the 4H center. The water temperature is expected to be in the upper 70's. A preliminary water temperature will be posted on the website on the Thursday prior to the event. An official reading will be taken race morning.
Bike: The bike course is fast and mostly flat. There are a couple rollers on this course but you can ride the entire way in your big ring. There are 3 water bottle hand offs on the course at miles 15, 30, and 44. Heed can also be taken at miles 30 and 44. Please plan your fluid intake accordingly as there will be 12 miles to ride from the last hand off to the bike finish.
Run: *See note about run course change in News section below* The run course is pretty close to pancake flat. Athletes will have a lane of the Colonial Parkway to themselves as they run along the James River through miles 0-3 and 10-13. The Colonial Parkway is composed of large pebbles cemented together with a wide grass shoulder, there is minimal shade on this portion of the course. For this reason you may want to wear a beefier shoe instead of racing flats, this ultimately is your call. The middle miles 3-10 are spent perusing Treasure Island Road and Lake Powell Road. These roads are asphalt and there is total shade from miles 6-8 on Lake Powell Road.
Aid Stations: Aid stations will be located every mile on the run course. Each aid station will have water, HEED, ice, flat Coke, Chex mix, orange quarters, Hammer Gel, and E-Caps. Each station will also have a porta jon nearby. There will be misting tents at 3 places along the course as well. There will be iced towels at the aid station at Treasure Island and the Colonial Parkway.
Post Race Food: We'll have a fantastic all you can eat BBQ feast once this event is done. Come ready to race and leave full and tired.

News
Water Temperature: 74F
Run Course Change: The run course for all 3 triathlons will be changing due to a boat hitting a bridge piling on the Colonial Parkway (click HERE to check out the press release). Basically, the original run course is now impassable at mile 1. Below are the turn-by-turn directions for the new run course.
1/2 Run - Left out driveway from Vermillion house (finish line too)
Cross Rt 359 (get on Jamestown Access Road)
Keep going until the end at Landsdown - turnaround.
Come back to bike path that crosses over Jamestown and parallels Greensprings - turn right.
Go over Jamestown - go about 200 meters - cross 4H club rd.
Go about a mile - turn right on first gravel trail.
Follow trail and make 2 left turns to stay on the main loop.
At some point the trail will "Y" - you turn right about 30 degrees with a slight uphill. This takes you into a parking lot/trailhead.
Go through parking lot and go past Jamestown HS on bike path (school will be on your left)
Turn left on bike path in front of school - If you hit Rt. 5 you have gone too far.
Cross big wooden bridge - Hit "T" in road - go right.
Follow this to intersection of Greensprings Rd - Just before Greensprings rd is a park bench - turnaround here.
Follow bike bath straight back towards the start. At the entrance to Mainland farm (about a 1/4 mile from Jamestown Road) is the turn around point to start the second lap of the run course.
Do the second lap and then come back to the main turn around point - cross 4H road - cross Jamestown Road - turn right on access road and head back to driveway and finish line.
