The only sprint triathlon in Southwest Virginia and the only pool swim in the Virginia Triathlon Series west of Lynchburg, the inaugural New River Valley Triathlon offers a time trial challenge for seasoned triathletes and an inviting, exciting course for first-timers.
Where there are valleys, there certainly are mountains, but the course designers have selected paths friendly for those new to the sport, and friendly for personal bests for experienced triathletes. After a 400-meter swim in the 50-meter Olympic-caliber pool at the brand new, state-of-the-art Christiansburg Aquatic Center, race participants will cycle a 13-mile out-and-back route, primarily on a rolling road in a rural, residential area. The 5K run is a loop near the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on residential streets.
The first female and the first male to finish the New River Valley Triathlon will set course records and receive special commendation.
Participants are invited to visit early for packet pick-up, to survey the race course, and to enjoy the New River Valley: home of Outdoor Magazine's “dream town” selection for its proximity to the Appalachian Trail and the Washington-Jefferson National Forest; home of three sites of higher education, the state’s largest university, Virginia Tech, Radford University, and New River Community College; a high-tech growth economy led in part by the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center; Blacksburg, Virginia, listed by Forbes.com as one of the Best Small Places for Business and Careers and by CNN Money.com as one of the Best Places to Live and Launch; and the valley home of America’s oldest river, the New River.

4/27/09 - Inaugural New River Valley Triathlon Cancelled:
Due to further construction delays the Christiansburg Aquatic Center will not be open in time for this year's triathlon. While we are disappointed in this turn of events we still believe that this is a great venue for a VTS race in 2010. Full refunds will be sent to all registered athletes and a 2010 date will be posted by 12/31/2009.

Event Site Rules
The last day to change your swim time is Friday September 25th. You can do this by logging into your profile, selecting this race registration and updating your swim time. Be sure to enter your time in MM:SS format.
How to submit or change your swim time
Based upon your estimated 100 yard swim time you will be assigned a specific start time. This is when you start the race. It is not a suggested time to show up on race day. It is very important that you be in the pool and lined up at least 15 minutes before you start the race.

REFUND POLICY
50% of your entry fee will be refunded until September 26, 2009 or until the event has filled. No refunds will be issued for any reason after September 26, 2009. Event entries are not transferable between persons, events or years. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy. By registering for this event you agree to these refund terms. To request a refund you must complete the refund request form using the link below BEFORE the posted refund deadline.
Every effort will be made to have this event on time on this date. Should this event be cancelled due to an Act of God or other circumstance beyond the race directors control there will be no refunds, credits, or transfers.
