Description
2011 Event date will be announced by December 1, 2010.
The specific date and time for online registration for the 2011 event will also be announced on December 1, 2010.
The Lake Norman YMCA Triathlon is a two day event.
The race category you choose will determine which day you race.
Saturday:
Open, Masters Open, Age Groupers, Clydesdales, Masters Clydesdales, and Athenas.
In order to race on Saturday, you must race in one of these categories.
There will be no Novices, Masters Novices, or relay teams in the Saturday race.
Sunday:
Novices, Masters Novices, and all Relay Teams
In order to race on Sunday, you must race in one of these categories.
There will be no Age Groupers, Open, Masters Open, Clydesdales, Masters Clydesdales, or Athenas in the Sunday race.
If you have already raced in 2010 in an Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series event as an age grouper, or in the Open, Masters Open, Clydesdale, Masters Clydesdale, or Athena categories, you can race in the Lake Norman (Sun) race, HOWEVER you must register in the Novice or Masters Novice categories.
This means that this race would not count towards your point totals for Inside-Out Sports North Carolina Triathlon Series series awards.

Swim:
The 750 meter swim features an in-water start with the water temperature historically being in the low 80's so wetsuits are hardly ever permitted. The rectangular shaped course starts right at the beach at the Lake Norman YMCA with the swim finish located only about 50 yards down the shore from the start location. The water is usually very flat as the course is situated in a protected area of the lake that is sheltered from the wind.
Bike:
The bike course is a 17 mile loop which begins with a two mile section through downtown Davidson and past Davidson College. The bike course quickly becomes a ride through the rural roads of far north Mecklenburg County. The course is moderately hilly with a couple of decent size hills - though nothing too intimidating.
Run:
The run course takes place on the neighborhood roads in the area immediately south of the YMCA property. The one-loop 5K course is also moderately hilly with lots of turns. If the temperatures are high - the run course will be hot - as shade is at a premium.
