Description
The Patriot's Half: Located on the James River next to the Jamestown settlement, centerpiece for the 400th celebration of Jamestown. Just minutes from I-64 in Williamsburg, VA the Patriot's Half is a must do event. After a 1.2 mile swim in the James River athletes will ride through 56 miles of rural countryside on mostly flat terrain and good pavement. Once you have laced up your running shoes you'll be treated to a flat and fast 13.1 mile run on a combination of bike paths and jogging trails.
Be sure to take get in a day early to get your race packet to check out the race site, attend the pre-race meeting or experience Colonial Williamsburg.
Course Details:
Swim: The swim course is a 1.2 mile rectangular course in the brackish James River. The start and finish alternate each year between the beach next to ferry and the beach downriver from the 4H center (tide dependent). The water temperature is expected to be in the upper 70's. A preliminary water temperature will be posted on the website on the Thursday prior to the event. An official reading will be taken race morning.
Bike: The bike course is fast and mostly flat. There are a couple rollers and sections of false flat on this course but you can ride the entire way in your big ring. There are 3 water bottle hand offs on the course at miles 15, 30, and 44. Heed can also be taken at miles 30 and 44. Please plan your fluid intake accordingly as there will be 12 miles to ride from the last hand off to the bike finish.
Run: The new run course is FANTASTIC! This course is a combination of asphalt bike paths and VERY well maintained and mulched jogging trails. There is not a hill anywhere on this course. It is a 2 loop course for the half with well stocked aid stations at least every mile throughout. Each aid station will have water, HEED, ice, flat Coke, Chex mix, orange quarters, Hammer Gel, and E-Caps. Each station will also have a porta jon nearby. There will be a misting tent behind the high school as well as iced towels at this location.
Post Race Food: We'll have a fantastic all you can eat BBQ feast once this event is done. Come ready to race and leave full and tired. You can even do your cool down at Busch Gardens!

Women's TShirt Sizes:
New for this year many of the races in the VTS will be offering women's sized shirts. If you have registered for a race and want a women's sized shirt, please double check the sizing chart HERE. If you want to change your shirt size you have until 4 weeks prior to the race to do so as we will be placing the order for the exact number of shirts requested in women's sizing. Anyone registering within 4 weeks of the event will only have the option of unisex/men's shirt sizing.
NOTE - The first few races of the year have taught us that the womens shirts run SMALL, you will want to size up one size larger than you would normally order. If you do not choose to size-up and get a smaller than anticipated size we do not guarantee that there will be a shirt to size-up to on race weekend.
