TryCharleston are races with purpose!
TryCharleston's goal is to promote a healthier and more physically active community and thus our beneficiaries will focus on the needs of children in the Charleston County Elementary Schools and Meeting Street Academy for swimming initiative and wellness programs - as well as the Disabilities Foundation
The KOA system of campgrounds in the United States and Canada sponsors special non-profit programs for helping youngsters stricken with cancer and siblings to participate in the camping experience at an authorized "cancer camp".
KOA Kampground Owners through the Care Camps Program are dedicated to raising funds for children's cancer camps throughout the United States and Canada. These camps are designed especially for children with cancer, and have on-site medical facilities, specially trained counselors, and professional medical staffs..... almost entirely volunteers. Care Camps Trust members, who administer the program, are also all volunteers.

Event Logistics
Please read through the following document to understand the movement and check in of gear and bikes at TryCharleston 2013.
2013 TryCharleston Event Logistics Description
Due to high traffic volumes along Highway 17, TryCharleston and Mt. Pleasant officials have decided to create a double transition area event. This action will dramatically reduce impact on the local area and create a more enjoyable day for everyone involved. With that said, this double transition area will create some unique challenges for athletes on event day. However, by following a few simple steps and understanding the transportation plan your event day can be relatively stress free.
- Transition 1 (Swim to Bike) will be held at the KOA Campground. Athletes will be bused to this area on event morning.
- Transition 2 (Bike to Run) will be held across Hwy 17 at the Laurel Hill Primary School. This area will also be site of the finish line and post event celebration.
- Parking for the event will be at Cairo Middle School (A short walk from the finish line / Transition 2 areas).
Food / Refreshments
Breakfast will be available for purchase from Chick-Fil-A beginning at 6AM until 8:30AM. Breakfast cost will be $5.00 to include a Chick-fil-A Biscuit, fruit and coffee or lemonade.
Lunch will be available beginning at 9:00AM until 3:00PM for athlete's family members and friends for $8.00 (free to athletes and volunteers). The menu will consist of BBQ, all the timmings and vegetarian beans.
Additional Details
Finisher's Medals
All Half athletes will receive a custom designed TryCharleston Half finisher's medal.
Aid Stations
BIKE COURSE
Aid stations on the bike will be positioned at 3 locations on the bike course. These stations will be found at approximately miles 15, 30 and 45. Stations at mile marks 15 and 45 will have water only in sportscap water bottles which fit nicely into a standard water bottle cage. The station at mile mark 30 will have water and HEED in a standard bike bottle which will fit into a standard water bottle cage.
Please do our volunteers and the environment a huge favor by dropping bottles BEFORE the "End of Drop Zone" sign. Keep in mind that littering on the bike course will result in a penalty courtesy of our USAT officials and we will have designated volunteers writing down numbers of athletes who litter beyond the "Drop Zone"signed area.
RUN COURSE
Aid stations on the run will be positioned approximately every mile. These stations will contain:
- Water and Hammer Heed
- Hamer Gel and Electrolyte capsules
- Pretzels and other salty snacks
- Orange Slices
- Flat Cola
- Iced Rags
We ask that all participants deposit all their trash at the trash containers located at/near the aid stations.
Please do our volunteers a favor and make sure you don't throw trash along the run course. Our ability to hold this race is contingent upon how clean we leave the area following the race. Littering on the run course will result in a penalty from the USAT officials.
FINISH LINE FOOD
In addition to the standard fare of fruit, water, cola and salty snacks TryCharelston will offer free Shrimp Creole and Rice to all registered athletes and volunteers
