Description

Located on the outskirts of picturesque Smithfield in the Southeast corner of Virginia this race will become one of your early season favorites. A short pool swim followed by lightning fast bike and run courses this race will be THE race to check your legs and see how your base training has been coming along. If you are a novice and looking to check out the sport, this is a great event. You'll feel safe on the rural bike course and will have a semi-urban run to keep you interested during the 5K of the final leg. With a 10AM start you'll be able to drive in the morning of the event and then stick around for all the post race BBQ you can eat.

This event features our signature Technical T-shirts, Finisher's medals, Professional DJ, Bounce House and post race BBQ feast (with vegetarian option) courtesy of Smokin Joe's BBQ!

This race benefits the host of our race, the Luter Family YMCA. The YMCA's Strong Communities Program provides financial assistance to folks that would like to take advantage of the programs at the YMCA but otherwise couldn't. T-Shirt Sizes
Please note this event will have women's sized shirts. If you have registered for this race and want a women's sized shirt, please double check the sizing chart HERE as the women's shirts tend to run small. If you want to change your shirt size you have until 4 weeks prior to the race to do so.

- Anyone registering within 4 weeks of the event is not guaranteed a specific size or style of shirt.

Charity Entries:  All Charity Slots have been taken.

Wailtlist:  There is no waitlist for this event.  Please consider the RTC Sprint on 26 April, or the Angels Race on 27 April.

Updating Your Swim Time
The last day to change your swim time is Friday March 21st. You can do this by logging into your profile, selecting this race registration and updating your swim time. Be sure to enter your time in MM:SS format.

How to submit or change your swim time

Based upon your estimated 100 yard swim time you will be assigned a specific start time. It is in your best interest to submit a time as accurate as possible. Submitting a time that is too fast for you puts you up with swimmers who will be passing you during the swim - not good for you or them. Putting a time that is too slow places you with slower swimmers and forces you to have to pass everyone. The ideal scenario for all participants is to have people submit accurate times - the whole swim flows better.

Note - You should not submit your "all-out effort" time. The time that should be submitted isthe 100-yard "pace" that you can maintain for the entire swim.

Transition Area Rules
We will be allowing athletes to remove their bikes and gear out the rear exit of the transition area 15 athletes at a time. Please be respectful of your fellow athletes and give them a clear transition area to race through throughout the entire event.

Note: Participants must collect his/ her own event packets. Photo ID is required in order to collect event materials. NO ID = NO EVENT. ALL USAT annual members must show a valid USAT membership card or pay the one day membership fee ($12). If you take a photo of your ID that will be sufficient for photo ID purposes.

Pre Race Meeting: An extensive pre-race meeting will take place at 6PM on Friday. If this is your first race, come to this meeting to have your questions answered. A second brief meeting willl occur at 9:45 just outside the pool on race morning.

Enter the dates ranging from APRIL 4-5, 2014.

Enter the group code (TRI) under Group/Convention code.

You will see your group block name and all of the rooms types and rates that are available to be booked.
Guests will proceed to make their own reservations using their own credit cards to guarantee their rooms.

Once again, the rates are as follows:

Standard Queens ~ Contain (2) Queen Beds = $95.00 plus tax
Studio King Suites ~ Contain (1) King Bed and (1) Double Sleeper Sofa = $109.00 plus tax
Studio Queen Suites ~ Contain (2) Queen beds and (1) Double Sleeper Sofa = $109.00 plus tax

Please keep in mind that the group cutoff date is 3/15/14. Please make your reservations prior to this date in order to receive the group rate.

This event does not issue refunds.

Withdrawals

This event does not allow withdrawals.

Transfers

This event does not provide transfers.

Deferrals

This event accepts a one time deferment up to 30 days prior to the event date or until the event has filled.

The deferral event is the 2015 - Smithfield Sprint.

The deferral cutoff date was Thursday, March 06, 2014 and has passed. No further deferral requests will be accepted for this event.

Policies

There will be no other refunds, credits, or transfers available for this event.  NO exceptions.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

In the event of inclement the following procedure will be followed: The event will be postponed for 30-45 minutes in hopes the inclement weather will pass. If the inclement weather does not pass within this timeframe the event will be changed to a duathlon format.

Every effort will be made to have this event on time on this date. Should this event be cancelled due to an Act of God or other circumstance beyond the race directors control there will be no refunds, credits, or transfers.
