The Youth/Junior Elite Cup is 1 of 3 qualifiers for the Youth/Junior Elite National Championships in West Chester, Ohio on August 2-3. Athletes over 19 years should consider
racing in the Non-Draft Legal East Coast Super Sprint.
The maximum number of athletes per division is only 75 athletes. These fields are expected to fill so sign up early.
Youth/Junior Elite Series Overview The USAT Junior Elite and Youth Elite Series is the premiere triathlon race series for athletes 13 to 19 year olds in the United States. Consisting of four national-caliber competitions each spring and summer, the series prepares athletes for draft-legal competition and qualification to US teams competing at international championships. Each event has two competition categories - a Junior Elite Cup (16-19yrs) and a Youth Elite Cup (13-15yrs) - in which athletes are grouped by age and gender. Courses are designed to mimic Olympic style racing, with multiple laps and high speed transitions, making races exciting to watch for families, friends, and teammates. The series finishes with the USAT Youth Elite and Junior Elite National Championships in West Chester, Ohio, on August 2-3, 2013, for which athletes must qualify at one of the three Elite Cups, including Richmond. The USAT Junior Elite Series is officiated using international-standard draft-legal rules published by the International Triathlon Union by officiating teams selected by USA Triathlon.
Qualification for the Junior National Championship - The top 20 finishers at the USAT Richmond Youth Elite and Junior Elite Cup will earn the opportunity to compete at the USAT Youth Elite and Junior Elite National Championships in West Chester, Ohio, on August 2-3. Spots will roll down past athletes who have already qualified and athletes representing other national federations. Athletes may participate in any or all three qualifiers, regardless of residence.
Rules/Officiating - The USAT Junior Elite Series is officiated using international-standard draft-legal rules published by the International Triathlon Union by officiating teams selected by USA Triathlon. Series communiqués from the Lead Official can be downloaded at www.draftlegalrules.com.
