SERIES TESTIMONIALS

"The Trysports Triathlon Series is unlike any other, great for beginners but still fun and challenging for pro's and veterans alike. The TTS staff is professional and incredibly friendly. I look forward to a great 2012 season with them!" - Dwayne Dixon - 2011 TrySports Triathlon Series Male Overall Winner

"The TTS overall offers a fantastic variety of races, venues, and opportunties to challenge yourself in some of the best race venues in NC. Setup Events does it again with superb race quality and consistency, and Race Directors Mike and Aimee Gutekunst are some of the best in the business!" - Adam Rose - 2nd Place Male 30-34 in 2011

"Set Up and TrySports are first class professional organizations- they flat out know how to put on races. I've raced all across the country and can say that many of the so called "national" level events could learn a thing or two from the folks at Set Up Events and TrySports! Simply put the TrySports Triathlon Series races are about people, the joy of racing and competing amongst friends on some of the most scenic and challenging courses on the East Coast." - Patrick Rimron - 1st Place Male 45-49 2011

EVENT SPECIFIC TESTIMONIALS

UNC WELLNESS

"My favorite local triathlon is UNC Wellness. I can always guarantee a great race because of the athletes and fans. It may be hot because of August and quick because of the short distance, but nothing pushes you on like hearing your name on the course. I love that I get to see so many friendly faces!" - Teresa Anile

"Super Sprint means Super Fun! The UNC Wellness Super Sprint Triathlon in July is just the Race for all ages and abilities. Come one come all for this test yourself mid-season Sprint Triathlon, if you are a beginner it is very doable, if you are a only race a few times a year triathlete then it is a lot of fun, and if you are like me a season veteran than come let it all hang out, red line it to the finish in Chapel Hill. UNC Wellness Super Sprint Triathlon a great race for everyone." - Don White, 27 year triathlete from Apex, NC

LAKE LOGAN

"I've returned to Lake Logan triathlon several times. The scenery, beautiful course and cooler mid-summer location can't be beat. Also, the race tends to draw a competitive field, which I also appreciate. Thanks for all your work on the series!" - Alicia Parr - 2011 TrySports Triathlon Series Female Overall Winner

"My favorite out of town triathlon is Lake Logan. This is one of the prettiest places in NC. We usually make a weekend out of it, traveling with a group of friend triathletes. Everything is pretty about this course, the lake, the bike course and the run! You almost forget you are racing - almost. They also have a great group of volunteers. I look forward to this race every year." - Teresa Anile

"By far my favorite races in the TrySports Series are the Lake Logan International and Sprint. The swim is in a clean, pleasantly cool (wetsuit legal!) lake nestled in the mountains of NC. Once you get on the bike you are in for a treat. Who knew that you could have a flat fast bike course up in the mountains of NC? The run is shaded, out and back and very spectator friendly. However its the little things that Set Up and TrySports do that defines the race. Great volunteers, great post race food, even prize money! Also lots of port-a-pottys- a clear sign of a first class race!" - Patrick Rimron

"Lake Logan is an incredible triathlon! The misty breeze and chilled mountain weather make for such an enjoyable race! Swimming in clean and clear water is a rarity in the sport of triathlon, yet Lake Logan not only has beautiful water but a great swim course in general! For those of you who like hilly bike courses,--I would be one of those people--this is a race for you! The bike course has many twists and turns that challenge and hone personal biking ability. Running through shaded roads of easy to moderate hills is such a fun experience! The Lake Logan run course is fairly fast and immensely fun! This race is absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend trying it!" - Liliana Ferenandez

"I started doing triathlons 28 years ago and Lake Logan is my favorite event of all time, the venue is beautiful, the way the mountains come down to the waters edge with the cooler water temps in August. The bike course is one of the best around with the combination of hills at the beginning and end with the fast river flats section. The run is perfect, a slight uphill to the turnaround and then downhill to the end allowing a negative return split. The competion is always tough drawing folks from several states but at the same time I think it's one of the best events for someone to do their first international distance races." - Dale Mosher

"Lake Logan is one of the top race venues in the entire Setup Events lineup--period. Clean, crisp lake water, fun and challenging bike courses, and a run course that encourages you to negative split your time! The Lake Logan Multisport Festival weekend gives anyone the opportunity to get away to western NC for a spectacular sprint, international, or both. And not to mention it is a USAT qualifier for the National Championship!" - Adam Rose

"The most picturesque venue of all the NC series. Mist rises off the lake between two hills tucked into the edge of the Pisgah National Forest. A brisk, in-water start, quick hop onto the dock and a bit of a longer transition. The hill at the start wakes you up if the swim didn't. and can take some spring out of your step on the run if you haven't trained on hills. The loop run gives you a chance to see where your competitors are." - Brain Lehr

ENKA TRIATHLON AT BILTMORE LAKE

"I competed in several races in the 2011 season and would have to say that Enka Triathlon at Biltmore Lake is one of my favorites. Biltmore Lake is in Beautifual Asheville, NC with an amazing venue for the entire race. Bike course was very challenging but worth all the great scenery." - Dwayne Dixon

"One of my Favorite Setup Races each year is the Enka Trathlon at Biltmore Lake. The community that the cousre is held in is very supportive and come out to wacth the race. The bike course is challenging on rural roads with very little traffic. The finish line is a great family atmophere with a large playground and greenspace for the kids to play while Dad is out on the course. This is a regular event for the whole family. Thanks Setup for putting on such a great event every year." - Ryan Madamba

"Good place to experience the Western NC mountains with two tough hills on the bike and a great rural course with farms and views of the Pisgah National Forest mountains. Nice venue with the start uniquely located in an upscale residential neighborhood & lake. Run is also unique & mostly in wooded footpath around the lake with soft footing. One steep hill in a residential neighborhood rewards those who trained on hills." - Brian Lehr

"Enka Triathlon at Biltmore Lake in Asheville. A fun swim in a man-made lake, an awesome scenic and challenging bike course and challenging run with some off road sections makes this race a great event. Great post-race fair in a family friendly environment. " - Patrick Rimron

KERR LAKE TRIATHLON

"I love Kerr Lake. The lake is clean and calm, the bike is rolling and fun but has no serious drama, and the run is downhill for the last mile!" - JoAnna Younts

"As an avid triathlete I can honestly say I have participated in most of the races offered in North Carolina. These would include races from multiple race series vendors. Of all the races I generally prefer the International distance ones - more of a challenge than Sprint races but not nearly as taxing as ones longer. While there are many great International distance races in North Carolina I think the TrySports Kerr Lake is one of the best. The swim is unequaled. There is not any development in that area so there is very little boat traffic which usually translates in to a relatively flat and fast swim. However, it is the bike portion that I love best. It is challenging. If you are a strong biker you will love this test. The roads are lightly traveled and most of the pavement is butter smooth. It can be hot so be prepared. The run is where things can get interesting. It's going to be hot, you're going to be tired, and the course is uphill in both directions....okay it's only uphill going out but you do it twice so does it feel that way. The last few hundred yards are shaded, slightly downhill, and lined with spectators - a great way to finish a challenging race. The music and food afterwards are great and for folks living in the triangle it an easy one-day destination. You should always have Kerr Lake on your race schedule." - Harvey Haigler

VALDESE TRIATHLON

"Great way to start the series, not a huge event but a good test to see where you are. Shortest swim of the year and a quick T1, short but challenging hills on the bike, fairly flat run - good possibility for a sub 60" event. Great town support. Awesome awards and post race food." - Brian Lehr

LAKE LURE TRIATHLON

"Lake Lure is not only my favorite race of the TrySports series, but also one of my favorites in all of NC. The swim starts off in a pristine lake with a perfect sandy beach. Following that, there is an immediate climb steep climb on the bike to get out of the valley that the lake is nestled in. The bike takes you on a scenic ride throughout the area. The run is a great out and back loop. It is almost all on private roads with nearly no car traffic. The course finishes where it started on the sandy shores of Lake Lure. After the race there are plenty of snacks, drinks, people, and massages to enjoy! The Lake Lure Triathlon is one I will be sure to do every year I can." - Hans Loewen

"Festive atmosphere with bunches of things for an active family to do the entire weekend. Pretty swim might lull you into a peaceful state until you have to climb out of the hole from the transition and then fight hill after hill on the bike. Expect to max out your gears. Then it's a test of endurance as you climb out of the transition hole again on the run and keep gradually climbing. Nice touch to have iced towels at the finish. Fantastic food to refuel." - Brian Lehr

"My favorite sprint event is Lake Lure, the combination of a challenging bike course and finishing on the beach is unique. The race is part of the Olympiad festival so there is alot to do if you want make it a weekend. Also staying at the resort is great with the race site right around the corner. I'm looking forward to hammering the bike course in August the week after the National Championships." - Dale Mosher

BUCKNER MISSION MAN TRIATHLON

"The Buckner Mission Man Sprint tri gives you a bit of everything. A warm, open water swim; a rolling bike course, and a fast off-road run. Post race refreshments are amazing and the volunteers from Front Street Methodist Church are kind, helpful, and very supportive." - Adam Rose

"A favorite of mine is Mission Man, although one of the hottest races of the season, had an extremely fast bike course, and double loop trail-run course that was very enjoyable. " - Dwayne Dixon

"Can you take the heat? Lake swim is like bathwater, mid-July temps. heat up quickly on the bike and the shaded run doesn't really feel like it's shaded. Really pretty course in the park and amazingly rural for it's location between Greensboro & Durham. Great food at the end." - Brian Lehr

RIVERWOOD TRIATHLON

"Only having lived in the area for a few years I was looking for triathlons in the Raleigh area and someone suggested Riverwood Golf and Athletic Club, they say it used to be one of the best in the Triangle! Well this 27 year veteran of triathlons says it still is! Close to Raleigh, awesome course, rolling countryside bike, with a great run on bike paths and around a lake what more could you ask for. A great meal of cold pasta and very hot pizza at the finish line! Bravo TrySports Series for keeping this gem alive!" - Don White, Former Navy Team Captain at the Hawaii Ironman, 6 time Kona finisher and All Navy Triathlon Team member.

TRI THE WORX TRIATHLON

"Get a great workout at the WORX! A can't miss mid-season triathlon not far from the triangle. This race is defiantly a sleeper in the Try Sports Series. Great venue to host a sprint triathlon, awesome pool and Athletic Club with a rural bike course followed by a 5k run in the neighborhood where the neighbors cheer you on from their front yards. A can't miss on my schedule for 2012 I will be back for number 3." - Don White, from super sprint to Ironman triathlete, 27 years of Team White Lightning, a one man triathlon machine over 500 triathlons completed and still going strong!

TRI! BALLANTYNE

"Urban location but feels rural. Fantastic Y facility that is very tolerant, actually welcoming of the event that typically draws large numbers of competitors. Post race activities was like a triathlon festival with multiple vendors, products & freebies. A great family event." - Brian Lehr

CANE CREEK TRIATHLON

"Last chance to get points but you'll earn them. Lake swim is beautiful and seems longer than the actual distance, maybe because of the long, uphill run to the bike. Rolling rural roads before the run that makes you run an uphill loop twice. This is a great test of endurance and a good challenge for the end of the year." - Brian Lehr
